Aloha All,
The important BID Club dates for this month are: 1/17 and 1/29/2012
Tuesday Night January 17th - One Tank Club Night Dive @ Kailua Pier
Here’s the Plan: Everyone bring your gear to the shop on Tuesday Night January 17th @ 5:00 pm (Sunset is at 6:08pm) where we will have a site briefing, assemble our gear, then put it in the truck ready to go. You can leave your car in the BID parking lot if you like and we’ll then shuttle everyone down with the BID SUV, bring the gear truck down to the pier and unload. The drivers will then meet the group back at the pier for the dive. If you need a buddy, no problem, we’ll find one for you just let us know, though most of the time we just dive in groups. Once the dive is over, we’ll shuttle the gear and everyone back to the shop. How easy is that!?!
This is the second time we have dove this site as a club and it really is a fun night dive. One of the reasons it was chosen is because unless there is a large south swell it is almost always div-able *(if that's a word...). January is usually a month with some big swells rolling through.
Sunday January 29th @ 8:00am - Club Beach Dive & Potluck at Crescent Beach
We will be doing 2 dives at Crescent Beach (the beach is on the South side of the Honokohau Harbor entrance). The actual beach entry is super easy and is usually very calm; there is a short hike over uneven lava though from the parking area to the beach entry point which might be challenging to some, shoes, booties with good soles or, strong slippers are recommended.
We’ll do a site briefing there and pair up anyone who would like or needs a buddy. During the surface interval we'll eat and have a informal club meeting so think about where you would like to dive next as a club.
This dive is a local favorite, especially with our shop Divemasters. There is a good chance of seeing dolphins, spotted eagle rays, or maybe something a little bigger and ominous…
If anyone needs to rent a tank we can bring some out (please let us know, e-mail me or let the shop know, beforehand so we know how many to bring out) for $10 we’ll bring a tank out and swap it with a spare after the first dive so you will be able to do both dives.
Once again it will be Potluck so think about what you want to bring. Sorry Tom, I still don't have Karen's Teri-Chicken recipe yet...
The Year in Review:
Wow what a great year we had! The Big Island Divers - Dive Club is bigger and more active than ever before. We have so many great members I just want to give a huge MAHALO to all of you for making it what it is today!
Last year we shore dove sites from as far north as Puako to as far south as Ho'okena! We did Day dives at Puako, Crescent, Old A's, 4 Mile, Ke'ei, Hōnaunau, and Ho'okena. We did Night dives at Crescent, Old A's, Kailua Pier, and 4 Mile. We were able to explore new areas and see so many great sights, what a privilege it is to live in such a beautiful area of the world! Thank you all who were able to come out and join us for these dives, and if you weren't able to make some, feel free to join us out there any time you can, we would love to see everyone out diving with the club!
This year we are hoping to explore some new sites this year as well as re-visit some of the old favorites, we might even throw a boat dive in the mix. We have had so many suggestions and I really do believe we can accommodate most of them! Once again, Thanks for making the Big Island Dive Club the best on the Island!
